A million signatures were given to pResident Bush by Koreans protesting the cover-up, and acquittal of two soldiers who accidentally killed two teenage girls while driving an armored vehicle off base in Seoul. The incident has sparked anti-base demonstrations, and tens of thousands of protestors have been gathering outside the base to decry their presence, and demand a change to how trials are conducted. At present, crimes involving US military personnel are tried in US military courts, not in local criminal courts; thus, these deaths of two Koreans were adjudicated in a US court, rather than a Korean court.
Two delegates from Korea delivered the signatures and have had a successful tour of NYC and DC, and are here to contact with the sizable Korean Am community. The IAC is coordinating a Solidarity Forum for the delegation.
