On Aug. 24th, 2002, hundreds of Chicano/Mexicanos took to the streets in Highland Park to commemorate the original Aug. 29th Chicano Moratorium of 1970, when some 20,000 Chicano/Mexicanos took to the streets of East L.A. to demand an end to the Vietnam War. In this photograph you see the beginning of the march and it's leading banner. Support from the community was strong, with many people joining the march or honking their car horns in approval.

CHICANO MORATORIUM 2002 will have an important closing Panel Discussion on Friday, August 30th. Veterans of the original moratorium will be on hand to
interact with the community on issues of war and peace. The event will take place from 7:30 - 10 pm at the Latino Museum in downtown L.A. (201 N. Los
Angeles Street. For info call: 323-261-2286). The event is free and open to the entire community.
