On Friday, the City Council of the City of Los Angeles passed a resolution against preemptive war with Iraq.
The council voted 9-4 in favor of the resolution proposed by Councilmember Eric Garcetti.
They had failed to pass the resolution earlier this week; but it wasn't defeated either (it won 7-6, but needed 8 votes to pass), so some back-room dealing ensued, and it was put to a re-vote on Friday when it was resoundingly approved to the delight of the overflow crowd in the Council Chambers.
This follows on the heels of Santa Monica's anti-war resolution.
There was a victory rally on the steps of City Hall following the passing of the resolution, which was joined by around 200 students from Downtown Business Magnet High School, who had staged an anti-war walkout. See photos of the City Council, the rally, and the DBM students.
