South Central Farmers’ eviction stayed for one week

South Central Los Angeles, CA, March 6, 2006 - Last Friday and today, several tenants of the 41st and Alameda farm site filed a form at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department claiming a right of possession to the property.  Today, these tenants submitted the form they filed with the Sheriff’s Department to the Los Angeles Superior Court.  The Court scheduled a hearing on March 13, 2006, to decide the tenants’ claim that they have a right to be in possession of the property.  Filing the claim of right to possession means that evictions should not take place until at least March 13, 2006. The farmers and their supporters are still planning actions throughout the week to put pressure on the mayor and the city council to save the farm.
